Ogawa Active Supertrac Massage Chair Review

Ogawa translates from Japanese to English as stream. There you are, a bit of trivia for you. As for the company itself, it was founded in Malaysia in 1996.Its core business consists of health products so full body massage chairs were a natural fit for them.

Their headquarters are based in Malaysia where they control all aspects of design and quality control. The chairs themselves are manufactured in China. Ok, let’s take a close look at this full body massage chair the Ogawa Active Supertrac.

First Impressions

The chair is covered in a supple synthetic leather which is available in four colors they are black, chocolate, graphite, and cherry. Standing back from the chair it has a nice tidy sharp look to it very well styled. At the back, on the base are two roller type wheels designed to make it easy to move the chair.

Ogawa Active Features

The Remote Control

Rather than use a pedestal type control unit Ogawa have opted for a hand held unit it’s a good size and easy to hold. When not needed it neatly and easily slips into a pocket in the armrest. It’s well laid out, everything makes sense and as a consequence very easy to use.

First time users shouldn’t have any problems. The LCD screen provides you with a good visual reference of what is happening at any given time.

Body Scan

This chair employs the latest technology for their body scan. It is automatic and takes minimal time to complete. Body scan takes accurate measurements of the body and spine; this enables the rollers to hit their mark with pin point accuracy.

Heating

Heat incorporated into a massage can be very beneficial. Tight knotted muscles tend to loosen up after being exposed to heat and then massage.

Multiple heating pads are incorporated into the lower lumbar area. This is the perfect position for these pads as the heat travels up the backrest as well. This feature can be turned off if need be.

Vibration

Vibration helps with circulation of the blood and oxygen to tired muscles. This helps with the healing process. It has the added benefit of making you feel more relaxed. The vibrations from the seat also travel up the backrest. This feature can be turned off if desired.

Zero Gravity

The massage chair industry took up this technology a long time ago. Nowadays most quality chairs have it. It was originally developed by N.A.S.A for their astronauts to use during the launch. By laying back in this position, it takes pressure off the spine and the muscles surrounding it.

This makes manipulation a lot easier. An added benefit is that the heart does not work as hard in this position which in turn lowers the blood pressure. This helps with relaxation. This chair comes with two zero gravity recline positions.

The Rollers

The Ogawa active uses quad rollers that is, four rollers either side to massage you. Replicating the feel of the human hand is the main advantage of quad rollers. These rollers are of the 2D type which means they can move up and down as well as moving in and out.

The rollers have adjustments available for speed and massage intensity. The width of the rollers can be adjusted. The three settings are narrow, regular and wide.

The S-Track

This chair uses a 43 inch S track this helps to make it a full body massage chair. An S track follows the natural curvature of the spine. The rollers on this chair are able to massage you from the neck down to your glutes.

However, all this only comes into play when lying down (zero gravity). When sitting upright, the chair acts more like an L track massaging your neck and back only. Two chairs for the price of one not bad.

The Ottoman

The ottoman automatically extends to accommodate a person’s height right up to 6ft 4in.

Automatic Massage

Nine automatic programs all up. I wonder if that’s enough! On top of all that you get six different types of massage techniques. They are Shiatsu, Rolling, Swedish, Clapping, Tapping, and Kneading.

Each program uses a variety of these techniques along with different speed and intensity settings. The default time for a massage is 15 minutes.

If you desire, you can extend this in 5-minute increments up to 30 minutes. Or if for whatever reason you need to pause the massage, well there’s a button for that to.

Spot Massage

Imagine being able to target that exact annoying spot. Well, now you can. Simply adjust the rollers to exactly where it hurts brilliant!

Partial massage

Ok so you can’t quite pinpoint the spot, but you know the general area. Great this is where partial massage comes into play. It will massage an area 6 inches in length. That should get it.

Airbags

The chair has 56 airbags that’s a lot, but there all put to good use. They are used to give a very nice compression massage on the Calves, Feet, Hands, Hips, Thighs, Upper Arms and Shoulders. They are also used to hold the body during the stretch mode.

Stretching

A valuable addition to any massage is a good stretch.Stretching loosens up muscle fibers in preparation for a massage. These muscle fibres may have contracted through lack of use. This can all add up to greater flexibility and range of motion.

Perhaps you will be able to touch your toes again! This chair has two stretch modes one each for the back and legs/calves. The airbags are used once again to secure your body in place while this is happening.

Foot Rollers

Everyone should treat themselves to a good foot massage. Just think for a minute how hard your feet actually work. All that weight and uneven surfaces it’s no wonder they get overworked and sore. A good foot massage not only makes your feet feel better it can help with other parts of the body as well.

Let me explain; your feet contain acupressure points that directly relate to the main organs (heart, lungs, liver, etc.) inside your body. Ok, this chair delivers a great foot massage. It uses airbags to give a

It uses airbags to give a compression massage to the top and sides of the feet. While that is happening the two-foot rollers, gently knead the bottom of the feet.

How Hard Is It to Assemble?

The chair is easy to assemble, and all the tools come with it. Not much to it really just a case of attaching the two side panels (4 Allen head bolts). While doing this you also connect some air lines and air valve wires. Of course, this is just a rough guide. If you take your time and follow all the steps you should be ok.
